SILK TOP

WASH

In case of daily use: every 4-6 weeks.
In case of occasional use: every 8 weeks.

Only wash it when you find it necessary.

Depending on how well you take care of your topper, the longer your topper will stay gorgeous and in good shape.

Before you wash it, make sure you carefully detangle the hair with a wide and wet brush.

Wash the hair with lukewarm water.

Use sulfate-free shampoo.
It is advisable not to treat the hair roughly due to friction.

Apply a good leave-in conditioner from the middle to the ends (avoid the roots) and leave it on for a few minutes (or a few hours) to prevent the hair from drying out.

Never apply conditioner directly to the scalp area/silk top or to any part of the silk top. If your cap construction has any lace part, you need to be extra careful and gentle in order not to damage or stretch it.

Cleanse the piece in lukewarm water and comb the hair. Spend enough time rinsing your hair to be sure no soap remains.

Gently towel dry. If you have time to let the piece dry naturally after a towel dry this would be best.
However if you need to blowdry then blast dry at a 20 cm distance.

You will notice that the topper can become fluffy and slightly textured / wavy after it has dried, that is perfectly normal.
After styling it will be back to how it was at purchase.

COLOR

Because the hair is 100% human hair it can be dyed but it is not recommended unless done by a professional who is familiar with color processing wigs and toppers.

Just note that you should only use semi or demi permanent hair dye.
Avoid “lifting” (lightening) and only “deposit” color with toners using low volume developers to prevent irreversible damage to the hair.
Color darker, never lighter.

Keep in mind that the toppers that are already colour processed are not suitable for lightining or bleaching. However processed hair can be coloured to darker shades.

Colouring a topper requires a special skill as you may stain the silk part or dry out the hair strands.

Always do a test strand first as the hair will absorb color faster than hair that grows out of your scalp.

If you really do want to bleach, order a virgin color. Bleach on the silk (root) will ruin the piece, so no bleach on the silk.

Be careful with colour around the silk scalp material as you can’t remove any accidental colour run out of the silk.

! Please be gentle & careful with the base (silk & lace),

Hairdye, toners & purple shampoo directly on the scalp area will leave stains.

The silk base is more difficult to protect during the colouring process.

Please note that dying/bleaching the topper does void the warranty.

STYLE

Always use heat protection before styling it with any curler or straightener. It can safely be trimmed, curled, straightened.
I recommend a maximum temperature setting of approx. 200°c / 365°f to avoid damaging the hair.

When the silk base is damp you can part the hairline however you want (left, right, center). Spray some water onto your topper’s part line.
Use a rats tail comb to move the hair to the desired side.
Blow dry to set the part line in its new position.

There is also a tip on how to get some lift/extra volume at the front of your topper. Spray the topper hair line wet. Comb hair back. Dry it to set.

You can do with your topper whatever you would do with your own hair. Cut it, style it, dye it, perm it, etc.
However, it is important to note that any extra chemical treatment damages the hair and lowers its quality and lifetime.

I personally never use styling products, only a few drops of Moroccanoil treatment on the ends before styling.

I always straighten the hair before I curl it, curl away from the face and leaving the ends out.

Avoid blunt cuts.
Cut the length while it’s being worn on your head.

LONGEVITY

Give extra care when needed.

The longevity of your piece is directly related to how well you care for your hair and how often it is worn.
High quality hair pieces should last anywhere from 8 months – 2 years (or even longer).

The sun can lighten / oxidize and dry out the hair over a
period of time so your piece may need some extra hydration.

Refresh and revive service

Tone, darken roots and bring it back to life.

If you need me to give your piece a spa makeover for a refresh I would love to help bring your hair back to life.

PERSONAL TIPS

Handle with care.

Store it on a mannequin head.

Don’t bleach it.

Don't swim with it (chlorine and salt water will cause the hair to dry out).

Don’t sleep with it on (It is not recommended to sleep in your hairpiece as it causes friction on the piece - it will lower the lifespan of the hair).

Shampoo the top and condition the ends.

No conditioner on the base, only on the ends.

BE CAREFUL WITH THE BASE :-)

No conditioner, oily stuff, hairdye, purple shampoo directly onto the silk/lace part.

Don’t use heat every day, once you style it, it should stay that way for a while.

Go easy on hair products, to much creates a build up and can make it tangled and frizzy.

Cut the ends every half year (no blunt cuts).

LACE TOP

! Never stretch the lace & no conditioner on the base.

Be Gentle. Scratching with your fingernails, tugging, or vigorous washing can damage your lace wig and lead to balding. Avoid tearing and overstretching your wig in the area of the lace. Don’t pull the lace when putting it on or off your head.

Each hair is individually knotted and secured into the base with a strong adhesive. This gives your wig its natural look, but makes it very delicate.  Always handle with care.

It is very important to care for your wig to extend longevity. All of Hair vy V wigs are made with 100% human hair which is tied onto a lace cap. Frequent use and styling the wig with hot tools and products might cause breakage and shedding.

When hair is attached to a human scalp it continues to feed on nutrients to stay healthy. Because the wig hairs are no longer attached to a human scalp, it is essential to treat the hair with care.

Wash your wig(s) with sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner.

Avoiding products that contain sulfates, alcohols, or fragrances will keep the hair hydrated. Sulfates, alcohol and fragrances strip away the natural oils and moisture which will leave the hair feeling frizzy, dry and brittle.

WASH

How to wash a natural human hair wig

  1. Use a wide-tooth comb to smooth the wig hair before washing. Please do not to pull or stretch the hair fibers. A wide tooth comb is an essential tool. When combing the hair wet, very gently, in order to prevent any hair from getting loose, you'll want to start brushing the hair from the ends to the top, without getting too close to the lace base. This prevents the hair from being pulled out of the lace and wig cap.

  2. Hold your wig with one hand and use the other to pour lukewarm water over the hair. The wig hair just needs to be wet, but not soaking wet.

  3. Put a small amount of sulphate free shampoo on the wig hair and work the shampoo through the hair. Then rinse the hair clean, being careful not to squeeze or wring the wig.

  4. Apply a small amount of conditioner on the hair -keep away from the lace or silk top area- and work it through, letting it sit for a few minutes. Rinse the hair with lukewarm water until the water runs clear. Don’t apply conditioner close to the roots. The hair is knotted into the lace cap. Conditioner applied on the knots may result in the knots coming loose from the cap.

  5. Do not twist or wring out your wig.

  6. The best way to dry your wig is to place it on a wig stand and let it air dry, but you can use a blow dryer on natural human hair wigs. Just be sure to keep the heat setting low. Don’t stretch the lace.

  7. Once your natural human hair wig is dry, you can style it with a curling iron set on low. No heat on the lace.

Keep your wig on a mannequin head when not in use

Whenever you are not using a wig the proper way to store it is in a mannequin so that it is in an upright position, and it doesn’t get tangled. Also, cover it to avoid dust.

Don't wash it too much

How often you should be washing your wigs depends on how frequently you wear them. If you wear a wig daily, washing it twice a month is sufficient to ensure hair remains bouncy and fresh-looking for as long as possible. But if you only wear a wig once in a while, a once-a-month wash will suffice. Never wash wigs more than twice in any given month, or you can risk damaging the unit and shortening its lifespan. Treat it as if it is your natural hair, washing too frequently will cause damage, it will also make the hairs become dry and brittle. The same concept applies to overuse of heated styling tools.

Finding the right shampoo and conditioner for your wig can be a challenge. While sulphates are in many different hair products, that are, in fact, your wigs worst enemy. They contain salts and only have one purpose, to make products foam. If you wear your wig on a daily basis and use adhesive products, it is recommended you wash your wig once every two weeks.

To ensure your wig lasts for as long as possible it is recommended that you don’t sleep with it on. Sleeping with your wig on causes the hairs to rub against your pillow which will cause tangling and your wig will require additional combing.

As tempting as it may be to use adhesives to secure your wig, alcohol products like hair spray or wig glue remover causes the hairs to become brittle and break at the root of the wig.

The lace area is the most fragile part of the wig.

Please be gentle with it.

Because each individual strand of hair is tied to the lace, a harsh removal of the wig when it is glued to the head can cause balding on the lace. Because the harsh chemicals cause the hair to dry out, the hair will become prone to break or snap around the hair line. I would recommend using wig tape with a day-to-day hold and to gently remove with lukewarm water. If your wig does not need an adhesive, like the cozy cap, I advise to not use it.

Never use heavy oils or styling creams

You don’t want to weigh the hair down, so it’s best to avoid anything that will make it look greasy or leave residue that has to be washed out later. I would even recommend to keep conditioner away form the lace (and silk).
